Who qualifies · the rule changed on 26 June 2026

Many hotels and resorts now clear the 100 kW bar

Under Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), the Energy Regulatory Commission lowered the contestability threshold from 500 kW to 100 kW — opening supplier choice to mid-sized properties for the first time.

100 kW

Average monthly peak demand

If your property's average monthly peak demand is 100 kW or more, it qualifies as a contestable customer and can choose its Retail Electricity Supplier. That's peak demand (kW), not total consumption (kWh) — and it's already on your bill.

Basis: ERC Resolution No. 22, Series of 2025, effective 26 June 2026, under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (RA 9136).

Same wires

Only your supplier changes

Your distribution utility keeps delivering electricity over the same lines and meters. Switching changes who supplies your generation, not how your property is physically powered.

You keep your existing connection, meter and service — only the generation line on your bill moves to COREnergy.

Is your property served by one of these utilities? If it meets the 100 kW threshold, you can switch.

Contestable customers in any of these franchise areas can choose their supplier. Your local utility keeps delivering your power — only your generation supply changes.

What hotel and resort operators ask us

A contestable customer is one with an average monthly peak demand of at least 100 kW, per the ERC's threshold in effect since 26 June 2026. The figure is assessed on your demand history, and it's printed on your bill — which is why we ask for it.
No. Your distribution utility continues to deliver electricity over the same lines and meters. Switching changes who supplies your generation, not how your property is physically powered.
Only the generation charge — the portion RCOA lets you shop for. Distribution and transmission charges are regulated pass-through costs that stay with your utility. You'll receive a single itemised bill from COREnergy showing each component.
Your bill shows your average monthly peak demand — the one figure that decides whether your property is eligible under the 100 kW threshold. It's used only to confirm eligibility and is handled under the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
